Features: The 2002 edition of "Research on Agricultural Economics and Technological Development" is the 12th annual academic research report collection of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. This report collects 22 research reports and papers completed by researchers of the institute in 2001. "Research on Agricultural Economics and Technological Development" embodies part of the research achievements of all researchers in the institute. As a component of the institute's annual research work, it is published every year, forming a series of collections. This plays an active role in summarizing research work, exchanging academic views, and providing policy advice. The past year was the year after China's entry into the WTO. How to respond to WTO challenges and enhance agricultural competitiveness were the key research and focus areas in 2001. The papers in the collection conduct quantitative analyses of the structure and efficiency of China's "green box" policies from the policy and institutional level, and propose insights on how to reduce public fiscal resource waste caused by inappropriate policy and institutional arrangements, rationally allocate "green box" policy resources, and improve the efficiency of "green box" support to enhance China's agricultural competitiveness. Through an analysis of the concept, characteristics, and current status of agricultural technology industrialization, the collection identifies several key areas for China's future agricultural technology industrialization and also puts forward targeted policy recommendations for the development of China's agricultural industrialization. The research reports also analyze problems in China's agricultural and rural development in various fields such as increasing farmers' income, product quality and standards, agricultural technological innovation, agricultural restructuring, environmental resources and sustainable development, livestock economy, agricultural product trade, education in impoverished areas and household credit, enterprise systems, and the construction of rural cooperative economic organizations, proposing creative viewpoints and conclusions that are worth reading. For the convenience of communication and reading, the titles of each research report and the names of the authors are presented in both Chinese and English. The papers and reports are accompanied by Chinese and English abstracts. The papers or research reports selected for the collection only represent the views and conclusions of the authors and do not represent the views of the institute. Readers are welcome to criticize and correct the views, conclusions, and methods presented in the text. The appendix of the collection includes information on ongoing research projects of the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2001, publications published in 2001, research achievements appraised and awarded in 2001, and the organizational structure and list of leaders of the Institute of Agricultural Economics as of December 2002.
