Rubaiyeh (also translated as The Rubaiyat) is a translation of The Rubaiyat, whose original work is renowned as a treasure of world literature. It is the most translated poetry collection in the world and also the most translated into Chinese, serving as a witness to the history of Chinese poetry translation. The features of this translation are: the translation strictly adheres to the original content and form, reflecting the original meter and rhyme in rhythm and phonology. It is the first poetry collection translated from English to Chinese under such requirements. Its appearance proves that this reasonable and even necessary requirement for translating poetry is feasible, demonstrating the potential of Chinese characters in accurately replicating the original content and form in translation. Thus, it paves the way for visually embodying foreign poetic systems in translated poetry—this has now been achieved in over ten English and American poetry collections.
