Liu Yu, originally named Congjia, was the sixth son of Li Jing. He ascended the throne in 961, without a reign title. When Liu Yu ascended the throne, Southern Tang had already become a vassal state of Song. He faced the pressure of the Song Dynasty and submitted passively, hoping for a temporary peace. In 975, the Song army entered Jinling, captured the posthumous emperor, and Southern Tang was destroyed. Emperor Taizu of Song enfeoffed him as Wailing Marquis. In 978, the posthumous emperor Liu Yu was poisoned to death at the age of 42. Politically, Liu Yu was an incompetent ruler, but literarily, he was a writer and poet. His main achievements were in Ci and poetry. His early works mainly reflected court life, such as Longing, Huanxi Sha, etc. After his capture, he made great breakthroughs compared to his early works, with representative works such as Yu Mei Ren, Pozhen Zi, and Langtao Sha. This book is based on facts and has a source, using literary techniques to narrate and comment alternately, vivid and lively. It is both a biography and a reliable history, reading it is like tasting tea, gradually entering a wonderful realm.
