Features: "Layout Design" as a new course introduced in the late 1990s had very few reference materials for teaching. We mainly relied on our understanding of layout design in professional design to develop lesson plans and create multimedia teaching materials. Over a span of six years, we gradually refined these materials through classroom practice. The content of this book primarily stems from our years of experience in teaching layout design. Our perspectives were gradually shaped by addressing classroom questions from students of varying levels, from freshmen to master's degree candidates in design. For example, we adopted research-based learning methods and determined specialized topic-based design projects. The teaching framework followed "Specialized Case Studies → Case Analysis → Application Analysis of Knowledge Points → Summary → Assignments and Case Studies," integrating layout design principles into the analysis of outstanding design works. This allows students to grasp the design skills presented in the layout case studies and to explore and attempt to apply these skills, guided by the tutorial prompts and requirements. In our course design, we emphasize the key learning points and challenges of each chapter, guiding students to master design principles through practical training. Additionally, we focus on cognitive methods to help students expand their problem-solving abilities while also encouraging them to reevaluate problems from a personal perspective. We promote the use of conceptual development techniques, enabling students to discover design principles from case studies, thereby showcasing the diversity of layout design solutions and uncovering various potential factors in problem-solving. This enhances students' problem-solving skills and confidence, breaks habitual thinking patterns, and liberates and strengthens their imagination and creativity.
