Is chronic prostatitis and varicocele serious?

Patient's question:

Doctor confirmed chronic prostatitis and varicocele, currently taking Chinese medicine. Please see if my condition is severe and how it should be treated.

Doctor's answer:

When breathing calmly, the normal diameter of the internal spermatic vein should be within 1.8mm, and during deep inhalation or standing, it should be within 2.0mm. In your case, there is varicocele in the spermatic vein, but the degree of varicocele is not considered severe. The echogenicity of the prostate is poor, with fibrosis, and the most common cause is prostatitis. If you have varicocele and there is no obvious testicular pain or discomfort, and it does not interfere with your daily life, there is no need for special treatment. Avoid spicy and irritating foods, and prevent strenuous exercise and prolonged standing. The treatment of prostatitis also requires attention to lifestyle and dietary adjustments, avoiding excessive sexual activity, maintaining regular sexual life, preventing prolonged sitting or standing, avoiding overwork and overtime, and abstaining from alcohol.
