Features: The 2005 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination English Syllabus (Non-English Majors) made significant adjustments to the question types, primarily reflected in the following three aspects:
1. In the national unified English examination, the listening section was canceled and moved to the post-examination stage.
2. The reading comprehension section introduced a new question type—“Selecting and Matching,” while the weight of this section also changed, increasing from the original 50% (including English-Chinese translation) to 60%.
3. Writing was divided into two parts: one was short application essays with approximately 100 words, and the other was expository argumentative essays, possibly in chart form, with approximately 160–200 words.
The 2006 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination English Syllabus (Non-English Majors) further revised the Part B section of reading comprehension compared to 2005, adding two alternative question types in addition to the original selection and matching:
- One type involves an article with approximately 2005–2006 words, where the original order of paragraphs is scrambled. Candidates must rearrange the listed paragraphs (7–8 in total) based on the content and structure of the article, with 2–3 of the paragraphs already positioned in the text. This is referred to as the “Paragraph Rearrangement (Type II).”
- The other type can be divided into two examination formats:
- One format presents an article of approximately 500 words followed by 6–7 paragraphs. These paragraphs elaborate on or provide examples of a specific part of the article. Candidates must select the most appropriate 5 paragraphs from these options to fill in the blanks in the article, which is termed the “Evidence Matching (Type III).”
- The other format involves selecting the most appropriate 5 paragraphs to fill in the blanks of an article of approximately 500 words, which is referred to as the “Main Idea Summary (Type III).” Together, these two examination formats are collectively called “Type III.”
