[Overview]
"Acne" is called acne in medical terms, a common chronic inflammation of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland that occurs during adolescence. It primarily affects the face, chest, back, and other areas, forming blackheads, papules, pustules, and nodules. Since it is common among adolescents, it is called "acne." The causes are related to excessive sebum secretion, excessive keratinization of the hair follicle canal, bacterial infection, inflammation, and other factors. The occurrence of this condition is mainly associated with genetics, endocrine disorders, excessive sebum secretion, abnormal keratinization of the hair follicle opening, and the excessive proliferation of local Corynebacterium acnes.
Acne primarily affects the face, especially the forehead, cheeks, and chin, followed by the chest, back, and shoulders. Initially, it appears as comedones, which include open comedones and closed comedones. They contain keratin and sebum. Closed comedones, also known as comedones, are small papules with a skin tone, the size of a needle tip, with a clearly visible hair follicle opening and are difficult to extract. Open comedones, also known as open comedones, have a significantly enlarged hair follicle at the center of the papule, with a yellowish-white sebum plug blocking the hair follicle opening, making it easier to extract. The surface appears black due to the oxidation of sebum.
Comedones can develop into inflammatory papules, pustules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. Inflammatory papules are generally the size of rice grains to green beans, and some may develop into pustules or pustules with a pustule head in the center due to severe inflammation or manual scratching. Nodules are purplish-red or dark red, can protrude above the skin in a hemispherical shape, or can be deeper and only palpable. Later, they can gradually subside. Cysts are either normal skin color or dark red, with a hemispherical shape protruding above the skin and a fluctuating sensation when touched.
