Features: History is a leading discipline at Sichuan University and one of the oldest academic departments in the university. In the Sichuan Higher School established in 1902, students were required to take public courses, including foreign history, before enrollment. In the Sichuan Confucian College founded in 1910, history was ranked alongside Confucian classics and literary studies. In 1918, it was renamed the Department of History. In 1924, the Department of History was officially established at Sichuan University, becoming one of the earliest 10 departments in the university's history. Xu Zhongshu (1898–1991) was a famous historian and paleographer from Huaining, Anhui. He graduated from the Department of Chinese Studies at Tsinghua University's Research Institute and studied under prominent scholars such as Wang Guowei and Liang Qichao. He later taught at the Department of History at Sichuan University for many years. This book is a collection of historical essays by Xu Zhongshu. It includes more than 20 of his representative works on pre-Qin history and other historical fields.
