Features: History is a leading discipline at Sichuan University and one of the oldest academic departments in the university. In the Sichuan Higher School established in 1902, students were required to take public courses, including foreign history, before enrollment. In the Sichuan Confucian College founded in 1910, history was listed alongside Confucian classics and literary studies. It was renamed the History Department in 1918. In 1924, the National Chengdu University officially established the Department of History, which was one of the earliest 10 departments in the history of Sichuan University. Meng Wentong (1894–1968) was a renowned historian and expert in ancient Chinese history, as well as a specialist in the history of Chinese thought. He was a disciple of Ouyang Jingwu and had profound insights in Buddhist studies. This book is a collection of Meng Wentong’s historical essays. It includes more than 20 of his representative works on ancient Shu history and general history.
