Features: The mode of economic growth refers to the methods of input and combination of various production factors that drive economic growth. Its essence lies in relying on what factors, utilizing what means, and achieving economic growth through what pathways. Typically, we categorize the mode of economic growth into extensive and intensive. The extensive mode is characterized by growth achieved through the quantitative expansion of production factors, primarily manifested as high input, high consumption, high emissions, lack of coordination, difficulty in recycling, and low efficiency. The intensive growth mode, on the other hand, achieves economic growth by enhancing the quality of production factors, such as technological progress, institutional and systemic innovation, and improvements in labor quality, as well as increasing production efficiency. Its characteristics are primarily low input, high output, low consumption, fewer emissions, recyclability, and sustainability. Shifting the mode of economic growth means transitioning from an extensive growth mode to an intensive one. To deepen the research on the transformation of the mode of economic growth, the editor organized all the doctoral students of the 2004 class of Industrial Economics at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences to discuss and conduct systematic research from thirteen perspectives under thirteen topics. This book is the collective outcome of their collaborative research.
