Publish Date: 2006-10-01
Features: This bilingual textbook (Chinese-English edition) is based on the original English textbook (Donald D. Givone's Digital Principles and Design, published by McGraw-Hill in 2003), supplemented by Chinese translations of key chapters. The book provides a detailed and systematic discussion of the fundamental principles and analysis and design methods involved in digital system implementation, with content that aligns closely with the teaching syllabi of digital circuit-related courses in Chinese higher education institutions. The original book features accurate concepts, rigorous arguments, and clear reasoning, making it an excellent and easy-to-teach textbook. It has been adopted as a reference by numerous universities in the United States. The book is divided into 9 chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction; Chapter 2 Number Systems, Arithmetic, and Codes; Chapter 3 Boolean Algebra and Combinational Networks; Chapter 4 Simplification of Boolean Expressions; Chapter 5 Logic Design Using MSI Components and Programmable Logic Devices; Chapter 6 Flip-Flops and Simple Applications; Chapter 7 Synchronous Sequential Networks; Chapter 8 Algorithmic State Machines; Chapter 9 Asynchronous Sequential Networks. During the English reprinting process, the following chapters were omitted: Section 2.9 and Section 2.12 of Chapter 2; Sections 4.7 to 4.14 of Chapter 4; Sections 9.4 to 9.8 of Chapter 9; Appendix A; and the Index.
Due to space constraints and in accordance with the basic teaching requirements of relevant courses in Chinese higher education institutions, in addition to the omitted content from the reprinting process, the following sections and chapters were not translated: Section 2.5.2 and Section 2.5.4 of Chapter 2; Chapter 8; Chapter 9; Exercises at the end of each chapter; and References. To facilitate readers, this book includes a dedicated Chinese-English glossary. The translation of this book was completed by Associate Professor Luo Rong of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. Associate Professor Luo Rong has been teaching the undergraduate professional foundational course "Digital Logic Circuits" at Tsinghua University. This book can serve not only as a bilingual teaching material for digital circuit-related courses but also as a foundational theoretical reference for engineers engaged in digital system design.
