Features: In the 21st century, ecology seems to have become a "disruptive discipline." It is set to "disrupt" the values and worldviews that have dominated the rapid advancement and unchecked actions of human society for 300 years. "Disruption" also signifies a transformation and reconstruction of knowledge systems and civilizational paradigms, marking the transition of human society from the industrial civilization era to the ecological civilization era. This is undoubtedly a profound transformation in the realm of spiritual and cultural change. From the perspective of literary theory and criticism, ecological criticism is another critical school that gradually emerged in the 1980s, following feminist criticism and postcolonial criticism. The literary and artistic expressions of humanity so far have been nothing but the state of human existence on Earth, and thus can all be viewed and evaluated through an ecological lens. The expected space for ecological criticism should be even broader and more magnificent. The author of this book, Lu Shuyuan, is one of the earliest scholars in China to focus on ecological criticism. For many years, he has consistently advocated interdisciplinary research in literary and artistic studies and has regarded academic research as a specific, sustained state of the spirit. He has never hesitated to pour his "heartbeat" and "sympathy," "affection" and "obsession," "imagination" and "longing" into the words on the page. The Space of Ecological Criticism is not written in the conventional institutionalized academic writing style. The author longs to communicate and interact sincerely with people in a free academic atmosphere.
