Features: During his lifetime, Mao Zedong visited Shanxi only twice. The first time was in February 1936 when Mao Zedong led the Central Red Army on an eastward expedition specifically to Shanxi. The second time was in March 1948 when Mao Zedong led the Party Central Committee across the Yellow River to Xibaipo, passing through Shanxi. Both of Mao Zedong's visits to Shanxi occurred at critical moments in the development of the Chinese revolution. However, some influential monographs on the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and research literature on Mao Zedong provide little or no introduction to his two trips to Shanxi. Mao Zedong's significant activities in Shanxi are only scatteredly reported in some publications, and no single book has been dedicated to systematically reflecting on these events. The book Mao Zedong in Shanxi compiles relevant records and systematically documents the major activities of Mao Zedong's two visits to Shanxi. For the first time, it comprehensively and thoroughly records and outlines Mao Zedong's great revolutionary practices in Shanxi during the turbulent revolutionary era and the peaceful construction of the socialist period, his earnest teachings that showed deep concern for Shanxi, and the many interesting anecdotes he left behind for the region. It is both an pioneering academic work and an invaluable textbook imbued with patriotism and revolutionary traditions.
