Draft History of Ming and Qing Ci Studies - Draft History of Ci Studies in Chinese Dynasties

Features: This academic history of literature focuses on "comprehensiveness" and "breadth." It is composed of five chronological volumes: Tang and Five Dynasties, Northern Song, Southern Song, Jin and Yuan, and Ming and Qing. It is a comprehensive history of Ci-style literature research. The initial goal of the editors and writers was to meticulously examine the research status of each historical period, identify its research characteristics and patterns, and thereby trace the developmental of "history," presenting as authentically and clearly as possible the entire process of Ci-style literature research over a thousand years. Through a broad review of the entire manuscript and selective reading of the "introductions" and key chapters of each volume, the authors found that the editors and writers have largely achieved their academic objectives.
Additionally, by summarizing and describing the academic concepts, research methods, approaches, and discourse expressions of Ci scholars throughout history, the book provides valuable references for contemporary scholars. Furthermore, as it has comprehensively reviewed the research status of each historical period, it saves contemporary scholars considerable effort in searching and avoids some repetition in topic selection and research.
Of course, this book still has some shortcomings, primarily: the discussion of certain important theoretical issues and specialized Ci studies is not entirely accurate; some volumes present a large amount of material but offer less of their own interpretations and evaluations, and so on.
