Features: This academic history of literature focuses on "comprehensiveness" and "breadth." It is composed of five chronological volumes: Tang and Five Dynasties, Northern Song, Southern Song, Jin and Yuan, and Ming and Qing. It is a comprehensive history of Ci poetry literature. The editors and authors' initial intention was to meticulously examine the research status of each historical period, identify its research characteristics and regular phenomena, and thereby outline a "historical" narrative. They aimed to present as authentically and clearly as possible the entire process of Ci poetry literature being studied over a thousand years, laying a foundation for the future writing of a more comprehensive academic history of Ci studies. By broadly reviewing the entire manuscript and selectively reading the "introductions" and key chapters of each volume, it is found that the editors and authors have largely achieved their academic goals.
Furthermore, because the book summarizes and describes the academic concepts, research methods, approaches, and discourse expressions of Ci scholars throughout history, it provides many references for contemporary scholars. Additionally, as it has already conducted a basic review of the research status of each historical period, it can save contemporary scholars considerable effort in searching and help avoid some repetition in topic selection and research.
