To highlight the role of learning-type dictionaries, this dictionary follows practical principles in its selection of characters and words. The characters chosen for word formation are common ones, and the resulting words are also intended to be common, general, educational, while rare or specialized words are excluded. The selected characters number over 2,500, with only a few being secondary common characters, mostly falling within the category of primary common characters. The formed words total over 100,000 entries. Generally speaking, the average word length in Chinese is 2.5 characters, meaning each character appears on average 2.5 times. Based on this calculation, there are over 40,000 non-repetitive words, making it a comprehensive word formation dictionary of considerable scale.
