Features: To meet the needs of contemporary college students for humanities and arts, this textbook is primarily designed for non-art majors. It is divided into two main parts—appreciation and techniques—integrating knowledge and practicality, enabling non-art majors to grasp art knowledge and improve their aesthetic and artistic skills in a relatively short time. Given the limited class hours for public elective art courses, this textbook focuses on art appreciation as its core, aiming to cultivate students' aesthetic awareness and perspectives, enhance their aesthetic abilities, and inspire their creativity. In terms of system and content, the textbook is designed to facilitate both in-class teaching and post-class self-study and expansion under teacher guidance. The content and features of this textbook are as follows:
1. Starting from the perspective of art appreciation, it briefly outlines the essence and characteristics of art appreciation, introduces the types of art, and enhances students' overall understanding of art appreciation practice.
2. It explores the development and schools of Chinese and foreign art from a humanistic and historical perspective, emphasizing the foundational aspects of appreciation. Each historical transformation and significant art event is accompanied by representative art works for reference and appreciation.
3. Appreciation of classic Chinese and foreign art works, including ancient, modern, and contemporary works of outstanding significance. The textbook emphasizes systematic knowledge and the completeness of works, reflecting the humanistic elements of appreciation to cultivate students' refined aesthetic tastes and abilities, and comprehensively improve their overall quality.
4. Artistic skill training, which includes three sections (decorative painting, Chinese painting, and watercolor painting). The selected content is tailored to the needs of contemporary college students in art practice, and teachers can choose 1–2 options based on actual conditions. Through practical exercises, students will master basic artistic forms, shaping principles, and expressive techniques, as well as improve their practical application skills.
The content of each chapter in this textbook is both independent and interrelated, allowing for flexible arrangements in teaching or self-study. For example, the illustrations in the art appreciation section can serve as viewing materials or reference paintings for artistic skill training.
