Features: The sketches collected in this book are a selection from over three hundred that the author painted during their trip to Xinjiang from May to August 2005. The journey lasted three months, passing through the Bayinbuluke Grassland, the oil city of Korla, and the relatively modern ancient city of Kashgar in southern Xinjiang, finally ending in the "Stone City" of Taxkorgan on the Pamir Plateau. In the first half of the trip, the author was more focused on traveling and only began to paint earnestly upon reaching Taxkorgan. Despite the high artistic intent, the author's limited skills made it difficult to fully capture the simplicity, warmth, and innocence of the Tajik people. Carrying back a stack of thick sketches, the author carefully reviewed them and found most to be rough, though a sense of vitality still remained. Here, a selection of the better ones is presented for the author's teachers, friends, and fellow artists to critique and correct.
