The stubborn faction of the Kuomintang also continued to anti-communist friction. In the severe situation of being besieged by both the enemy and the stubborn faction, the Communist Party of China firmly upheld the great cause of the national united front for resistance against Japan. Based on the principle of consolidating North China, developing Central China, and expanding South China, the Eighth Route Army advanced into the Jilin-Liaodong Plain and launched the famous "Hundred Regiments Campaign." The New Fourth Army moved eastward and northward, developing the guerrilla warfare in Central China. The entire rear war zone resisted 58% to 62% of the Japanese invaders and all puppet forces, achieving significant growth in combat strength and bases. The army expanded to 500,000 personnel, and the population of the bases reached over 100 million, becoming the backbone of the War of Resistance against Japan. On the main front, the Kuomintang army also successively conducted battles such as the Nanchang Campaign, the Suizao Campaign, the second Changsha Campaign, the Guinan Campaign, the winter offensive of 1939, and the Zaoyi Campaign, severely weakening the limited Japanese offensives.
On September 18, 1931, with the thunderous artillery fire of the Japanese Kwantung Army attacking the Beibai Camp in Shenyang, Japanese imperialist forces launched the long-planned aggressive war to dominate China. Thereafter, they gradually encroached and advanced. Wherever the invaders' iron hooves trod, rivers and mountains bled, fields were ruined, lives were destroyed, and civilization was destroyed. The Chinese nation faced the critical juncture of national extinction and subjugation! Saving the nation and preserving survival became the inescapable responsibility of every Chinese person! The various classes, parties, groups, and overseas Chinese in China, prioritizing the great cause of the nation, united, stood united in hatred of the enemy, and faced the crisis together, using flesh and blood to build a new Great Wall, engaging in a heroic struggle against the Japanese invaders that lasted for 14 years.
China's War of Resistance against Japan followed a difficult and winding path of development, experiencing a historical process from localized resistance to nationwide resistance, from strategic defense to strategic stalemate, and then to strategic counteroffense. The Chinese people, through immense national sacrifices and heroic resistance, finally achieved the great victory of completely defeating Japanese imperialism, composing an uplifting and moving anthem of the entire nation's anti-invasion war.
