1. "Comprehensive Chronicle" is a new format combining annals and news reports. It follows the chronological order of years and months, selecting and recording significant historical materials in an annalistic style, forming a vertical arrangement. For each selected historical event, a news report style is used to present it horizontally. Numerous historical photographs lend the book a multi-angle, three-dimensional effect.
2. The main body of the book records historical events from October 1, 1949, to July 31, 1999. The occurrence time of historical events is generally accurate to the "day," with a few accurate to the "month."
3. The book does not divide the history of the People's Republic into any stages, using only the year as the sole basis for division. It is written in five volumes in chronological order according to the Gregorian calendar.
4. The layout of the book mainly consists of five forms: "Major Events," "Reports," "Thematic Photos," "Background Photos," and "Columns."
1. "Major Events" includes significant events of the period, arranged in chronological order. The entries are generally not repeated in the "Reports," with only a few repeated for emphasis.
2. "Reports" is the primary form of presentation. Using a news format, it objectively narrates historical events. Typically, the time is noted at the beginning, such as "1.1" representing January 1, appearing in a newspaper layout according to the importance of the event.
3. "Thematic Photos" is another form of presentation. Primarily featuring historical photographs or illustrations, supplemented by text, they independently report on events within the frame.
4. "Background Photos" selects representative historical photographs or images to assist the "Reports" or "Columns," showcasing the same theme and enhancing the visual effect of the text.
5. "Columns" is a supplementary form of presentation, mainly including events or historical facts with secondary significance but prominent in literary or engaging aspects, showing less news-oriented characteristics.
5. Numbers in the text are written in Arabic numerals followed by units, such as "300 billion"; proper nouns are represented in Chinese characters, such as "The Fourteenth National Congress."
6. All dates are expressed in the Anno Domini (A.D.) system.
7. Titles of books, newspapers, poems, paintings, and other proper names are enclosed in quotation marks, such as "Practice Is the Sole Criterion for Testing Truth."
8. Names in the book are used directly without any honorifics, but some may be preceded by titles to indicate their identity, such as "Foreign Minister Qian Qichen."
9. Place names, such as city and county names, are annotated with their administrative levels, such as "Nanchang City," "Huaxi Village."
10. The narration of events in the text strives to respect history and present an objective and detailed account. The book records the major events of the People's Republic from its early days to the present, showcasing the turbulent journey of the Republic from various events and perspectives, making it of extremely high historical value.
