Is it better to treat prostate with Traditional Chinese Medicine or Western Medicine?

Patient's question:

My prostate was found to have an issue during my previous health check-up. The doctor said it was due to an enlarged prostate. I plan to go to the hospital in the next few days for a thorough re-examination and to confirm the treatment process. Before that, I'd like to ask if treating an enlarged prostate is better with traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine?

Doctor's answer:

Prostatitis is divided into infectious inflammation and non-infectious inflammation. Both can lead to symptoms such as prostatic congestion, perineal swelling and discomfort, difficulty urinating, or sexual dysfunction. For acute infectious inflammation, Western medicine antibiotics are effective. If it is chronic non-infectious inflammation, traditional Chinese medicine and herbal medicine are relatively more effective, requiring clinical diagnosis, syndrome differentiation, and treatment. Prostatitis is prone to recurrence, requiring long-term medication treatment.
