Features: Tolstoy is one of the most influential Russian writers of the 19th century in world literature. His novels, such as Resurrection, have had a significant impact on a broad readership in China. Resurrection was written based on a real event from that time, primarily depicting the male protagonist, (Nekhlyudov), who seduced his aunt's maid, Maslova, leading to her pregnancy and subsequent expulsion from the family. Later, she became a prostitute and was tried for allegedly murdering someone for money. The male protagonist appears in court as a juror, encountering the woman he once seduced, and is deeply tormented by his conscience. He advocates for her, seeks justice for her, and even proposes marriage to atone for his sins. After his appeal fails, he accompanies her to Siberia for exile. His actions move her, and she falls in love with him again. However, to protect his reputation and status, she ultimately refuses to marry him and instead marries a revolutionary. In the end, both the male and female protagonists achieve spiritual and moral "resurrection."
