Patient's question:
The condition is quite severe. What are the symptoms of balanitis?Doctor's answer:
Red spots on the glans are a typical symptom of balanoposthitis, which refers to the inflammation of the inner foreskin and the glans penis. A lipoidal substance normally secreted in the normal foreskin cavity can accumulate as smegma under conditions of phimosis or excessive foreskin, irritating the foreskin and glans to cause balanoposthitis. The basic principle of Western medical treatment is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Generally, it involves both topical and systemic treatment. For acute superficial balanoposthitis and annular purulent balanoposthitis, erythromycin and tetracycline are the drugs of choice. For trichomoniasis-induced balanoposthitis, metronidazole is the drug of choice. For candidal balanoposthitis caused by Candida, it is commonly treated with griseofulvin or itraconazole.
