Features: Understanding the current clinical status of diabetes allows for targeted measures to more effectively prevent and treat diabetes. Looking back at the history of diabetes prevention and treatment, over a decade ago we focused on treating potentially life-threatening or disabling diabetes complications or comorbidities; in the past decade, we have focused on strict metabolic control to delay or prevent the occurrence of diabetes complications; today, we focus on two aspects: ① Selecting appropriate lifestyle adjustments and individualized drug treatment based on the etiology and pathophysiology of diabetes patients; ② Lifestyle and/or drug intervention for individuals with prediabetes. For this purpose, early detection of patients and individuals with prediabetes is very important. Currently, the most applicable screening methods are for high-risk individuals for diabetes, such as those aged 40 or older, overweight or obese, with a family history of first-degree diabetes, a history of gestational diabetes and/or macrosomia, hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia and/or low high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels, and those with a sedentary lifestyle. Our research on diabetes is still deepening, our understanding is still improving, and the clinical landscape of diabetes will continue to change.
