Features: The vast land of China boasts diverse musical art styles, among which the art of the Chinese bamboo flute is profound and extensive, spanning five thousand years of Chinese history. The spirit of Yan and Huang, the sound of Qin, a single bamboo flute has composed the history of Chinese music. Mr. Gaoming's bamboo flute art is rooted in Shaanxi. Since the late 1950s, his flute music has deeply resonated across the Chinese-speaking world, making the pipa style of northern Shaanxi elegant and unique. Today, I am honored to have the opportunity to organize the ethnic instrumental compositions created by my mentor—renowned bamboo flute player Mr. Gaoming. I am deeply moved. Due to his busy schedule, Mr. Gaoming has never had the time to organize his own compositions, performances, and published works. Therefore, he has specially entrusted me with this task. Mr. Gaoming has handed over his manuscripts from the past forty years to me, and I feel a great sense of responsibility. During the organization process, I have poured my heart and soul into it, striving to complete this monumental project with more dedication and effort! For example, some of the five-line scores in the book need to be converted into simplified notation, some require adjustments to the instrumentation, and some need to be redesigned in terms of layout structure to make the page arrangement more scientific and rational. It is especially worth mentioning that this publication includes the recordings of Mr. Gaoming, with the valuable audio from back then undergoing technical processing, and two CDs of Mr. Gaoming's performance albums are published alongside the "Selected Compositions." On this basis, the book also includes the full scores of some compositions and works that have not been published after 1986, such as the large-scale ethnic instrumental concerto "Wang Baochan," the xun (Chinese ocarina) pieces "Huangling Stele" and "Silk Road Ballad," and the grand ensemble "Longevity Music." These works are categorized by instrument type, and important music reviews and explanations of the compositions from different historical eras are added, enabling performers to better study Mr. Gaoming's instrumental works and accurately grasp the artistic image of his creations. This book is a collection of ethnic instrumental compositions, featuring numerous works by Mr. Gaoming since 1959.
