All children know that whenever the midnight bell rings, the carousel in the amusement park begins to buzz and play in the starry sky. They follow the mysterious melody, chasing each other in circles, up and down, until the sky gradually brightens and they slowly, slowly come to a stop. The children say, "Because they're in love."
However, You, We, They takes a skeptical stance on love. Although the characters in the book are paired off, Jimi introduces contradictions within the symmetry, making the lyrical Jimi disappear. The sweet, little love stories are merely sprinkled throughout as decorations.
The biting and satirical words, the sharp and incisive arguments, the image of lovers spraying fire into the sky, the awkward scene of couples facing each other yet unable to gaze at one another—all provoke caution. This is a love picture book that blends the bittersweet flavors of life.
