The series Contemporary Linguistics of China is one of the key publishing projects of Shanghai Education Publishing House. The series was planned and began to be compiled and edited by You Rujie (Fudan University), Zhang Hongming (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA), and Tang Faren (the publisher) in the spring of 1990. Chinese linguistics began to break free from the shackles of traditional elementary education and entered a new stage of modern linguistics in the 1920s and 1930s. In the more than half a century since then, Chinese linguistics has accumulated considerable research achievements. Especially in the recent decade or so, many fields have made significant progress both domestically and internationally. This series aims to summarize the research achievements of various branches of contemporary Chinese linguistics, especially reflecting the latest research progress, in order to achieve the effect of connecting the past and the future, carrying forward the legacy, and promoting the modernization of Chinese linguistics. The authors of the series are not limited by nationality or region, nor by school or discipline, but only seek excellence and insight, striving to ensure that every book in the series reaches the highest level of the discipline at the time. This book is one of them, systematically elaborating on the relationship among language, speech, and technology.
