It is often said, "It is easy to get thousands of soldiers, but hard to find one general." Talent is the decisive factor in the development of a business. As a superior or a leader, the most important thing is to have a keen eye for discovering talent, and once discovered, one must also be skilled in utilizing it. Achieving both of these points truly means "he who secures talent secures the world."
People are the most difficult and hardest to understand creatures in the world. To learn to identify talent, one must first break down prejudices and reduce personal likes and dislikes to the lowest level. At the same time, one cannot choose talent solely based on personal relationships or grievances. This may sound easy, but the difficulty lies in execution. After all, people are emotional beings, and sometimes making choices that go against their own feelings can be very challenging.
As a successful business leader, one must establish the following belief: A successful enterprise is never built by one person alone. Whether you are a technical genius or a management genius, you cannot single-handedly establish a first-class company. You must rely on your assistants, subordinates, employees, and other experts.
From the experiences of many successful individuals, during the early stages of entrepreneurship, the technical skills or marketing expertise of the founder are often the most crucial. However, as the business grows and expands, the success of your venture largely depends on your ability to identify, utilize, and motivate talent. Only by successfully leveraging the wisdom and talents of others can one achieve great things.
In September 1957, near the Chitose Station between Tokyo and Osaka in Japan, a small store named "Daikyu" was born. It covered an area of about fifty square meters and had only thirteen employees, primarily engaged in pharmaceuticals and food sales. Fifteen years later, due to the owner's astute management and profitable business strategies, by 1972, the annual sales of this store had exceeded one billion yen, making it Japan's largest retail company. In 1980, the store set a new record with annual sales of one trillion yen. By 1999, it had risen to the throne of Japan's retail industry and gained considerable fame in the global commercial retail sector.
The person who created this miracle is Mr. Nakazato Kun, the founder and current chairman of the "Daikyu Corporation" in Japan. In Japan, Nakazato Kun is hailed as the "super businessman" and the "pioneer of distribution revolution." The main reason for his success lies in his skill in discovering and utilizing talent. Nakazato Kun placed great emphasis on talent utilization and training. Based on his military experience, he introduced the "Corporal Management Method," which leveraged the roles of frontline team leaders (i.e., directors) to fully mobilize their initiative and creativity.
As the company's business expanded, Nakazato Kun deeply felt the shortage of talent. Whenever the company faced critical business expansion, he always recruited outstanding individuals from all walks of life, hiring "management experts." Many of these individuals were persuaded to join through his persistent efforts. Nakazato Kun began this approach in the 1960s.
