Features: Liang Yan is a renowned portrait painter in the contemporary Chinese art scene. Liang Yan was born in 1943 in Qingyuan, Hebei. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a first-class national artist, and the Director of the Jilin Province Chinese Painting Art Committee. He is one of the "Top 100 Masters of Chinese Painting in 1997" and an expert receiving special allowances from the State Council.
Born at the foothills of the Taihang Mountains, Liang Yan grew up among farmers and miners, becoming a self-taught painter in the embrace of the mountains. His unique environment, experiences, and emotions led him to a creative path centered on depicting ordinary people, shaping his distinctive artistic style. Life molded Liang Yan, and in turn, it molded his art. His unwavering pursuit of spirit forged the unique artistic fortress that defines his work. Over the 30 years since "Application for Party Membership" (1973), he has continuously produced powerful and realistic masterpieces that have garnered significant societal attention.
Since 1985, more than 10 of his personal art books have been published domestically and internationally, and over 20 solo exhibitions have been held worldwide since the 1970s. The National Art Museum of China houses 7 of his works, while institutions such as the Chinese History Museum and the Tianjin Art Museum also hold his pieces. His works and artistic achievements have been honored with 6 gold medals.
Media outlets such as China Central Television, Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Wen Wei Po, and Wen Yì Bào, among hundreds of domestic and international publications, have reported on him. He has been included in over 100 art books and dictionaries, including The Complete Collection of Modern Chinese Art, 50 Years of Art in New China, Essentials of Chinese Painting in the 20th Century, and A Century of Chinese Painting.
His works such as "Application for Party Membership," "Under the Sun," "Stars Underground," and "Soul of the Yellow River" have been selected for national and international art exchange exhibitions. Recently, his monumental new works "Food and Clothing Parents" and "The Call of Antiquity," exhibited at the National Art Museum of China, received acclaim.
