Features: Why is the land named Sukhāvatī? The inhabitants of this land have no suffering but experience all joys, hence it is named Sukhāvatī. "Amidāyus" is a Sanskrit term, translated into Chinese as "Infinite Life," also known as "Infinite Light." What is Infinite Life? "Life" refers to merit and virtue; because of life, there is virtue, so merit and virtue are infinite. Infinite Light—light refers to wisdom light, meaning wisdom is infinitely bright. Amitābha's life, wisdom, merit, and spiritual power are all infinite and boundless. Because Amitābha's merit is infinite and his wisdom is infinite, he is called "Amitāyus."
