Features: To meet the teaching needs of the "History of Landscape Architecture" course for higher vocational normal schools and general agriculture and forestry colleges, the Education Work Committee of Agricultural Technology Higher Normal Schools commissioned Professor Youyong of Hebei Vocational and Technical Normal College to write the "Outline for Writing the Textbook of the History of Landscape Architecture." He organized teachers from nine other vocational and technical higher normal schools and higher agriculture and forestry colleges to participate in the writing. The Textbook Construction Guidance Committee of Agricultural Technology Higher Normal Schools reviewed the outline and manuscript and found that it had innovations in content and system construction:
1. Clear hierarchy: Each chapter on Chinese classical gardens consists of three parts: a brief history, classic gardens, and garden characteristics.
2. Emphasis on key points: Among countless domestic and international garden masterpieces, this book focuses on their representative works—classic gardens, highlighting domestic classical gardens while providing an overview of foreign classical gardens.
3. Concise language: Faced with the rich diversity of domestic and international gardens, the entire book is written in over 400,000 words.
4. Comprehensive content: The textbook not only includes the history of Chinese gardens but also provides an overview of foreign garden history, as well as summaries of modern and contemporary gardens in both China and abroad, and trends in global landscape architecture.
5. Illustrations: Over 40 color illustrations and more than 180 black-and-white images are interspersed throughout the text. Additionally, difficult characters are annotated with Pinyin, and difficult terms are explained.
This textbook is distinctive and an invaluable specialized resource in the field of landscape architecture history. It is not only suitable for undergraduate landscape architecture education in vocational and technical higher normal schools but also for general higher agriculture and forestry colleges, undergraduate tourism programs, and other related disciplines. It also holds reference value for landscape designers and enthusiasts.
