This volume, "Explorations in Chinese History," published by Hebei Education Press and selected for the "Twentieth-Century Chinese Historical Classics," is a collection of twenty-eight essays chosen by him from the numerous papers he had written on Chinese history during his lifetime. It includes twenty essays on ancient Chinese history, five on modern Chinese history, and three on the history of Sino-Western relations. It can be said that every essay is a masterpiece of scholarship. He personally chose the title for the book and wrote a brief preface for it himself while on his deathbed. "Explorations in Chinese History" was first published in traditional Chinese characters by Zhonghua Book Company in April 1981. This edition is the simplified character version.
