Features: On the occasion of the new edition of the "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" being released, we would first like to sincerely thank our readers and customers for their long-term support and love for this series. The series was originally published by the China Renmin University Press and is now published by the Inner Mongolia University Press. For this revision, "Comprehensive Tutorial" has replaced the original "Comprehensive Module," and "Mock Test Collection" has replaced the original "Mock Test Module," while the other modules remain unchanged. The new edition is written in line with the spirit of the new syllabus and incorporates the latest information from this year's exam for revision and adjustment. We believe that the new "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" will still be a valuable resource for candidates and training course participants.
The "Writing and Translation Module" of the "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" is compiled according to the examination syllabus determined by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. It aims to help candidates master the necessary writing and translation skills and improve their exam-taking abilities. The book is divided into two parts: Writing and Translation.
The Writing section provides targeted explanations and exercises based on the exam questions and the weak areas of candidates in writing. The materials for language and skill-related issues in writing are mainly selected from English pre-examination tutoring classes for working professionals. Most of the short passages used, including model answers and examples, are also from these classes. These passages have been revised to be more content- and language-wise aligned with the candidates, making them more suitable for imitation and practice. Additionally, the chapters of the book are structured based on the relevant provisions of the examination syllabus, making it more targeted and practical.
A certain number of writing exercises are also included in the Writing section, which cover a broad range and have practical significance. The reference answers to all writing exercises are provided at the end of the book for candidates to compare and check after completing them independently.
In the Translation section, based on the requirements of the new examination syllabus, the focus is on explaining two types of questions: Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation and short passage translation. The single-sentence translation starts with grammar, emphasizing the training and practice of sentence structures and word selection. Ten sets of mock Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation exercises are included, along with reference answers. The Chinese-to-English short passage translation focuses on specific topics, such as education, sociocultural issues, industry, and economics, aiming to help candidates quickly familiarize themselves with vocabulary and expressions in a particular area, expose them to various types and themes of translation materials, and better adapt to this question type.
During the writing process of this book, the following aspects were taken into consideration:
(1) Strictly adhering to the requirements of the examination syllabus, the difficulty level and topic selection of the book were determined. Vocabulary is strictly controlled within the vocabulary list of the examination syllabus. In writing and translation exercises, if there are obscure or difficult words, English or Chinese annotations are generally provided. The difficulty and length of writing and translation exercises are as consistent as possible with the examination syllabus.
(2) The selected materials are designed to be distinctive, emphasizing targeting and practicality. The materials are mainly from recent years' examination books, including TOEFL, FIRST CERTIFICATE, and various textbooks, magazines, and newspapers. The materials for short passage writing and translation are from pre-examination tutoring classes.
(3) In addition to providing a large number of writing and translation examples and exercises, the book also focuses on offering effective methods and techniques for writing and translation to help candidates improve these skills as quickly as possible.
(4) Emphasis was placed on the standardization of language and the coherence of content. In both the Writing and Translation sections, the general applicability and imitability of vocabulary, grammar, and exercises were fully considered. The answers and model answers are made as easy to understand as possible, facilitating memorization and imitation.
This book is not only suitable for working professionals taking the English unified examination but also for candidates preparing for the College English Test Band 4/6 and postgraduate entrance exams.
