What are the symptoms of cerebral palsy in children?

Patient's question:

My aunt gave birth to a son in the first half of the year, but now the baby in her house is 7 months old and doesn't cry or laugh much, nor can he crawl or sit by himself. He doesn't seem to understand anything others say, as if he's particularly slow to react. The family is worried that the baby might have cerebral palsy. What are the symptoms of pediatric cerebral palsy?

Doctor's answer:

It is often difficult to make a diagnosis based on the mother's pregnancy history, neonatal history, clinical presentation, motor disorders, abnormal postures, and motor assessments combined. However, since not all children with cerebral palsy exhibit obvious symptoms in the early stages, especially if the affected child is only mildly impacted, this often makes it challenging for clinicians to diagnose before 4 months or even 6 months. To establish a clear diagnosis, a few children may not be diagnosed until they start school, with the history tracing beginning from the discovery of learning difficulties, clumsy movements, and other issues, before the final diagnosis is made.
