How is preterm brain injury treated?

Patient's question:

He keeps looking around and completely ignores you, and this behavior is even more noticeable when he is about to sleep or just wakes up. All other check-ups are normal, but I'm very worried about his potential cerebral palsy or other sequelae when he grows up. Adding to this, his parents are not cooperative with treatment, which makes the situation even more complicated.

Doctor's answer:

Muscle tone is high and there is a turn towards the red ball and the human face/head. These are not criteria for diagnosing cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy usually occurs before birth or in infancy, with causes including: birth injuries, neonatal jaundice, brain hypoxia; premature birth, etc. The main symptoms are increased muscle tone, difficulty with abduction, and in severe cases, muscle rigidity, contractures, and joints maintaining a flexed position. In mild cases, there may be poor fine motor skills in the hands, and the heels cannot touch the ground when walking. These patients often have language development and speech production disorders, as well as strabismus. About one-third of patients have varying degrees of seizures and intellectual disabilities. Cerebral palsy can cause delayed motor development.
