Features: With the arrival of the new era, China's film and television art education has shown a prosperous and developing trend. According to incomplete statistics, of the over 1,000 full-time universities in China, nearly 300 have now established film and television majors or related courses. Film and television communication education in Chinese universities plays a significant role in enriching the curriculum of liberal arts universities, promoting the development of related disciplines, improving the knowledge structure of contemporary college students, particularly enhancing their film appreciation level and artistic taste, and fostering the growth of film criticism and creation. This contributes to the construction of socialist spiritual civilization. In terms of the curriculum system and teaching content of film and television art education, it is essential to introduce and absorb new concepts and methods from foreign film and television works, understand and master the creative philosophies and artistic practices of foreign directors and actors, and deepen the understanding of Western society and culture. At the same time, popularizing artistic quality education for college students, cultivating their aesthetic interests, improving the English proficiency of students majoring in film and television art, and integrating foreign language learning into professional education are urgent priorities. In light of this, we have selected and compiled nearly 30 articles from authoritative Western journals on film and television art, compiling them into this book. Film and Television English Reader includes 26 original articles, covering topics such as the Oscar nomination process, directorial artistry, star performance techniques, film criticism, and the style and format of television programs. To facilitate learning, the book adopts a bilingual format with Chinese and English side-by-side, and provides exercises at the end of each article to help readers understand the content and engage in rational reflection.
