Features: Mr. Zhi Tang often used the concepts of "poetry expresses the will" and "literature carries the way" as the thread to narrate the history of Chinese literature. Carrying the way needs no further explanation. However, Mr. Zhi Tang favored expressing the will, advocating for the autonomy of literature, because he admired Yuan Zhonglang's spirit of "writing freely with the hand and speaking spontaneously with the mouth, all becoming rules and measures." Later scholars like myself also believe that if academic paths are standardized, no matter how grandly they are presented, they may not be the fortune of scholars. "Independent spirit, free thought" is indeed the soul of academia. Therefore, the series hopes to follow the footsteps of the greats, in the pursuit of specialized studies, to strive for the freedom and independence of private law, making a modest contribution. Since the series upholds freedom and independence as its guiding principle, its purpose is not to engage in policy debates or literary conventions, but to emphasize the expression of one's own spirit and unrestrained creativity. The standard for measuring the quality of articles is not outside academia, but judged by their intellectual quality. Therefore, what the series cares about are the problem awareness, logical arguments, and intellectual contributions of the works. As for whether they elucidate the way or educate the people, or whether they can govern the state and benefit the world, these are matters left undiscussed. Academia is a public good. Although private law is a foreign import, the Chinese need not obsess over it, strictly adhering to the Great Barrier between the barbarians and the civilized, or the distinction between form and function. I believe that while the world of life may differ, knowledge cannot be divided. If we do not value knowledge itself and instead forcibly draw boundaries between nations, then the freedom and independence of private law may ultimately become as illusory as a mirror flower and water moon. Therefore, the series has no intention of carving out a "private law of our own" for the Chinese, but rather prefers to remain empty of words, seeking the source. Writing is not easy, and I sincerely hope that the wise in academia will not hesitate to offer their support. All theoretical works on private law that align with the series' purpose are warmly welcomed. The series was able to be published thanks to the strong support of the China University of Political Science and Law Press. Their magnanimity and insight are truly admirable.
