Is it necessary to have surgical treatment for excessive foreskin?

Patient's question:

My foreskin completely covers my glans, and the urethral meatus can be seen when fully erect. Since I just started dating a girlfriend, I want to understand the issue of the foreskin. If my foreskin is too long, do I necessarily need to have a circumcision surgery? Is surgical treatment the only option?

Doctor's answer:

Hypospadias has selective surgical options. Patients can decide for themselves how to undergo circumcision based on their personal hygiene needs and aesthetic preferences. If, after retracting the foreskin, there is a noticeable tight ring at the external opening of the foreskin, and it cannot return to its natural position after being retracted, or if the foreskin cannot be retracted at all (phimosis), it is recommended to undergo circumcision. Hypospadias can be stabilized, but the treatment period is usually long, and recurrence is common after treatment. Therefore, medication must be used symptomatically during treatment.
