Features: This book is based on the fourth edition and has been appropriately adjusted and revised in accordance with the "Basic Content of Chemical Teaching for Chemistry and Applied Chemistry Majors" approved by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Chemical and Chemical Engineering Disciplines in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education in 2004. The book focuses on explaining the fundamental concepts and theories of physical chemistry while also introducing some cutting-edge content related to the development trends of the discipline to cater to the needs of different readers. Each chapter includes references and bibliographies for extended reading, broadening the depth and breadth of the textbook. To help readers consolidate their knowledge and improve their problem-solving skills, as well as to facilitate self-study, the book incorporates numerous examples. At the end of each chapter, review questions and exercises are provided for practice. The book adopts the "Legal Metrology Units of the People's Republic of China" based on the International System of Units (SI) and the symbols specified in the National Standards (GB3100~3102—93). The book is divided into two volumes, containing a total of 14 chapters. The first volume includes: Gases, Thermodynamic Laws, The Second Law of Thermodynamics, Thermodynamics of Multicomponent Systems, Phase Equilibrium, Chemical Equilibrium, and Fundamentals of Statistical Thermodynamics. The second volume includes: Electrolyte Solutions, Measurement and Application of Reversible Cell Electromotive Force, Electrolysis and Polarization, Fundamentals of Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, and Colloidal Dispersive Systems. Accompanying this book will soon be published: a Study and Problem-Solving Guide, Multimedia Electronic Teaching Plans, and Multimedia Online Courses, forming a new type of three-dimensional teaching material. This book can be used as a textbook for the physical chemistry course in chemistry programs of science disciplines, and it can also be referenced by related disciplines in normal universities and engineering colleges.
