The first edition was compiled according to the teaching for higher mathematics in higher industrial schools promulgated by the Ministry of Higher Education in 1954. This edition was revised based on the current "Teaching for Higher Mathematics (Basic Part)" (Trial Draft) reviewed and approved by the Editorial Committee for Higher Mathematics Courses in Higher Industrial Schools in 1962. The book is divided into two volumes. The first volume includes analytical geometry, functions and limits, differential calculus and integral calculus of single-variable functions. The compilation and revision of this book were successively carried out by Fan Yingchuan, Zhang Guolong, Lu Zhenbang, Hou Xizhong, Fang Shushu, Wang Fuying, Wang Jiashan, Chen Xiongnan, and Jing Zhenkun, among others.
