Features: This book is based on the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Engineering Thermodynamics" (Revised Edition of 1995) formulated by the Ministry of Education, and revised on the basis of the first edition (1980) and the second edition (1986). It references the research achievements of the "Reform and Practice of Teaching Content and Curriculum System in Thermal Engineering Series Courses" project under the "Reform Plan for Teaching Content and Curriculum System of Higher Education Towards the 21st Century" by the Ministry of Education. The book also incorporates the experience and issues accumulated from the use of the previous two editions. It is a 21st-century course textbook and a key textbook for the "Nineth Five-Year Plan" in thermal engineering courses under the Ministry of Education. The book is divided into four parts: Basic Theorems of Thermodynamics, Thermodynamic Properties of Working Fluids, Thermodynamic Processes and Cycles, and Principles of Thermodynamics for Chemical Reaction Systems. The book emphasizes the elaboration of fundamental theories, focuses on the connection between theory and engineering practice, and revolves around engineering applications throughout its content. In line with the characteristics of the course, it pays attention to the guidance and training of thermodynamic methods to enhance students' scientific literacy. Each chapter includes "After-Class Self-Checking Questions" to assess learning outcomes based on the basic requirements of the course, improve students' interest in learning, encourage deeper thinking, and stimulate their innovative spirit. Each chapter also includes exercises with reference answers, and the appendix provides detailed thermophysical data of working fluids. The book adopts the legal units of measurement in China. This book has been reviewed and approved by the National Ministry of Education Thermal Engineering Curriculum Teaching Guidance Committee and can be used as a textbook for majors such as Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, Thermal Engine, Refrigeration and Low Temperature Technology, Engineering Thermophysics, and Energy Engineering. It can also serve as a reference for relevant engineering technicians.
