Features: Intermediate Listening is a guided, progressive listening textbook. The book is divided into three volumes and is designed for first and second-year English majors at colleges and universities, as well as students from other disciplines, education institutions, television universities, and self-learners. It has been designated as the listening course textbook for the satellite television English program launched in 1988. Intermediate Listening is the second volume, suitable for self-learners who can understand simple stories, dialogues, and news. The book consists of 24 units, each divided into two parts:
Part 1 focuses on single listening skill training, including: grasping the main idea, inference, guessing words, prediction, memorizing details, and listening to news broadcasts.
Part 2 alternates between dictation and listening appreciation. Listening appreciation materials cover topics such as famous scenic spots around the world, historical figures from China and abroad, and Western customs and traditions. The dictation section includes exercises like fill-in-the-blanks, removing extra words, and paragraph dictation.
The book is accompanied by a teacher's manual, which includes teaching tips, exercise answers, and supplementary listening materials. The supplementary materials consist of short stories, dictation exercises, and dialogues for extra practice or appreciation.
