Patient's question:
My child has always had poor reaction time, weak memory, and low intelligence since childhood. Their simple thinking prevents them from attending regular school. A friend suggested it might be due to low intelligence. Could you please recommend some good hospitals for treating low intelligence?Doctor's answer:
Children with intellectual disabilities often have longer sleep times, are very quiet all day, and rarely cry. They take longer to master various movements (such as sitting, standing, walking, and responding) compared to typical children. The crying of children with intellectual disabilities is either sharp or weak, with little variation in tone. When external stimuli cause crying, the time from the start of the stimulus to the next cry is relatively long, and it may take four or more repeated stimuli to elicit a cry. They show no interest in toys and will never play with them even if they hold them. They shift from excessive sleep and inactivity in early childhood to constant movement without purpose. The above-mentioned behaviors are not necessarily present in every child with intellectual disabilities in early stages, and it is certainly not true that having one or several of these signs automatically qualifies a child as intellectually disabled.
