Steel Structure (Volume 1)

Author: Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology

Features: This book has undergone significant updates and expansions based on the second edition published in 1994, to accommodate the current development of steel structures and the teaching needs of undergraduate civil engineering programs in universities. The book is divided into two volumes. The first volume, Fundamentals of Steel Structures, focuses on explaining the basic properties of steel structures, including materials, members, connections, and joints, as well as the principles and methods for calculating load-bearing capacity. The structure has been revised from the previous chapter-by-chapter approach based on member types to a chapter-by-chapter approach based on limit states. Topics such as section strength, individual member stability, member stability in the overall structure, brittle fracture, and fatigue are discussed in separate chapters, representing different aspects and levels of load-bearing limit states. Normal serviceability limit state is also covered in a dedicated chapter. The content closely aligns with the newly revised Code for Design of Steel Structures GB50017-2003. In addition to serving as a textbook, it can also be used as a reference for civil engineering design and construction professionals in their work.
