How long after hypospadias surgery in children can they stop wearing open-bottom pants?

Patient's question:

My 3-year-old baby has undergone a hypospadias surgery. How long after the surgery can they stop wearing open-bottom pants? What should be noted during recovery?

Doctor's answer:

Hypospadias is a common congenital malformation of the male lower urinary tract and external genitalia. The urethral meatus extends from the proximal end of the normal urethral meatus to the perineum on the ventral side of the penis. In most cases, it is accompanied by incomplete penile development. It is one of the most common congenital anomalies of the pediatric urogenital system. Hypospadias can be a single defect or a more complex issue, such as a phenotypic expression of intersex. Children with this condition cannot be treated with medication and can only be repaired through surgery. After surgery, if there is no infection, they can wear deadpan pants half a month later.
