What is balanoposthitis?

Patient's question:

I recently noticed white cheesy patches in my foreskin and on the coronal sulcus of my glans, as well as needle-sized pale red papules on the glans. I went to the hospital for a thorough examination, and the doctor said I have balanoposthitis. What is balanoposthitis?

Doctor's answer:

Balanoposthitis refers to the inflammation of the glans and foreskin mucosa. It can be caused by various different factors, such as excessive foreskin, stimulation from smegma, local physical factors, and various infectious factors. Balanoposthitis manifests as redness and swelling of the foreskin, burning pain, relief during urination, and may have purulent discharge from the foreskin opening. If the foreskin is moved, it can be seen that the inner foreskin and glans become congested, swollen, and in severe cases, may have shallow small ulcers or erosion, with purulent discharge.
