Features: In today's information age, information and intelligence play an increasingly important role. Among the information and intelligence people need, a significant portion must be obtained from various documents and materials. Therefore, the ability to retrieve documents has become one of the essential skills for professionals in contemporary fields. Due to the characteristics of the tourism discipline and tourism profession, the ability to retrieve tourism-related documents is particularly important for tourism researchers, tourism practitioners, and tourism students. However, some of them, especially many tourism students, lack this ability. In daily interactions with students, it is often observed that they feel frustrated and anxious because they do not know how to find relevant documents. To help students overcome this difficulty, the author began teaching a course titled "Tourism Document Retrieval and Utilization" at Nankai University's School of Tourism in the early 1990s. In the course, in addition to the necessary foundational knowledge of document retrieval and some personal experiences, the author emphasized the practical and applied nature of the course, supplemented by a large number of practical assignments. Currently, this approach has proven to be quite effective. Most students believe that although the assignments consume a lot of their time, they have gained significant benefits and have been very helpful to their professional studies. When writing this textbook, the author will strive to maintain this characteristic.
