Selected Readings from Western Linguistic Classics (Second Edition) 21st Century Chinese Language and Literature Series Textbooks

Author: Hu Mingyang

Publish Date: 1988-06-18
Features: A Selection of Famous Works in Western Linguistics was widely welcomed by language professionals and students from universities both at home and abroad, as well as by people interested in linguistics in society, after its publication as a professional textbook in 1988. This was something the compilers had not initially anticipated, as such a textbook was quite specialized. In 1994, Taiwan Shurong Publishing Co., Ltd. obtained permission from the original publishing house and the original compilers to publish a traditional Chinese edition in Taiwan, and by the end of 1996, the traditional Chinese version was officially released. In 1999, the Ministry of Education included this book in the required reading list for Chinese Language and Literature majors. To meet the needs of teaching and various aspects, China Renmin University Press agreed to the compilers' suggestion and decided to revise and republish the book. A Selection of Famous Works in Western Linguistics involves multiple Western scripts and various phonetic symbols, making typesetting and printing very challenging. Under the conditions at the time, it was perhaps inevitable that the first edition had several imperfections. Additionally, it was discovered after publication that some parts were missing and some places needed supplementary annotations. Therefore, the second edition should be revised and corrected.
