Features: In this revision, in addition to rereading the entire book, the following adjustments and changes were made based on the fourth edition: 1. Rewriting the "Introduction"; 2. Adding three-level headings to the "Table of Contents"; 3. Supplementing and revising the summaries of each chapter to enhance the historical outline; 4. Adding a section on "Maupassant" to the "Middle Part"; 5. Focusing on additions and deletions in the "Lower Part": (1) Dividing the 20th century into early and late periods and organizing chapters by; (2) Removing the sections on "Stefan Zweig" and "Mayakovsky" and adding four sections on "Boris Pasternak," "Bertolt Brecht," "Saul Bellow," and "Albert Camus"; 6. Adding a new section titled "Discussion Questions" after each chapter to better align with teaching, hoping these questions will inspire creative thinking among teachers and students rather than focus on exams; 7. Listing "100 Recommended Reading Books" as an appendix for reference.
For this revision, the original editorial committee members in Beijing—Kuang Xing, Chen ■, Li Mingbin, Xu Jing'an, and Huang Jinkai—formed the editorial committee to review and revise the book, with the executive editor Huang Jinkai finalizing the manuscript.
