Features: This "Manual" is a supplementary teaching material designed to accompany Gao Hongye's Western Economics (3rd Edition, published by China Renmin University Press). It was written by the original authors of the book, with the purpose of providing various materials related to the content of the 3rd Edition to enrich and deepen the understanding of the material, thereby assisting readers in their learning or teaching. The materials provided in this Manual are divided into seven parts, each with relative independence in content. This allows readers to choose the sections they need to read. Specifically, the main contents of the seven parts are as follows.
Part 1 is the Solutions to Exercises. This section provides answers to most of the review and thought questions in Western Economics (3rd Edition).
Part 2 is Case Studies. This section describes some real-world cases to reflect the connection between Western economics and reality.
Part 3 is Background Information on Important Theories. This section helps readers understand the brief history of the development of some important theories in the process of learning Western economics, enabling them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the past and present of mainstream Western economics.
Part 4 is Introductions to Important Literature. This section outlines some works that have had a significant impact on Western mainstream economic theory, giving readers a preliminary understanding of classic literature.
Part 5 is Explanations of Difficulties. This section aims to help readers solve some common difficulties that may arise when using the Western Economics textbook. At the same time, it provides a more in-depth discussion of some corresponding theories in the textbook, which is beneficial for readers with a higher level of understanding to further study.
Part 6 is an Expansion of Mathematical Content. This section provides a more rigorous mathematical explanation of some issues in Western Economics (3rd Edition). Through this section, readers can also lay a foundation for studying higher-level economic theories.
Part 7 is Biographies of Economists. By reading the biographies of economists who have had a significant impact on the development of Western economics, readers can better understand modern Western economics. The order of the content in each part largely follows the order in which the content appears in the aforementioned Western Economics (3rd Edition). For example, in the "Biographies of Economists" section of the Manual, since Arrow's contributions primarily involve microeconomics, and microeconomics appears earlier in the 3rd Edition than macroeconomics, Arrow is presented before Keynes, who laid the foundation for macroeconomics.
